PenedesLocated near Barcelona, the Alt Penedès region owes its prestige to its natural treasures. The region’s champagnes and wines are internationally known as the best in the country.

The Penedès Denomination of Origin spreads over the entire Gran Penedès region, covering an area of 1557 square kilometres and split into three areas: the Central Penedès, the Upper Penedès and Coastal Penedès.

The Penedès region has a lot to offer, including the Olèrdola Neolithic park and its archaeological remains, the architectural gems of Sant Martí Sarroca with its Santa Maria church and the towns of Sant Sadurní and Vilafranca.

The hallmark of wineries in the area is that they are small and medium operations. Production is managed independently, each making its own wine from private vineyards covering 26,000 hectares — about 2,300-3,000 vines per hectare.
